Pink Spotted Watchman Goby - Indonesia

Pink Spotted Watchman Goby - Indonesia

Cryptocentrus leptocephalus

The Pink Spotted Watchman Goby is a hardy, reef-safe species admired for its unique partnership with pistol shrimp and its peaceful, inquisitive nature. It features a pale yellow to greenish body adorned with faint vertical bands and numerous pink to reddish spots scattered across the head, body, and fins—creating a soft yet striking appearance. Like other watchman gobies, it often forms a symbiotic relationship with Alpheus pistol shrimp, sharing a burrow where the goby stands guard while the shrimp maintains the entrance. In the aquarium, this species prefers a sandy substrate for burrowing and plenty of live rock for cover. It’s an excellent addition to reef aquariums, where it helps aerate the substrate and adds fascinating behavior to the tank. The Pink Spotted Watchman Goby thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Generally peaceful, it may show territorial behavior toward other bottom-dwelling gobies but coexists well with most reef-safe tankmates. Growing to around 4–5 inches, it’s best housed in a covered aquarium to prevent jumping.
